JenAbbas.com Newsletter
Volume 2 * August 23, 2003

Hello Friends!

Welcome to the JenAbbas.com newsletter. There's lots of news to share with you about the upcoming book, Generation Ex: Adult Children of Divorce and the Healing of Our Pain. Let's dig in, shall we?

BOOK STATUS:
If you heard the loud whooshing sound, it was the sound of relief as I turned in the final manuscript a few weeks ago. It is an amazingly gratifying feeling to complete a task that was a distant dream for so many years.

The design team at WaterBrook did an incredible job with the cover. They had quite the challenge in trying to find an image that would evoke the emotions of divorce without being too depressing. I absolutely love their choice. Click on the link below to view.

At this point in the process, my editors and publisher are soliciting endorsements. If you know someone (or are someone) who would be willing to provide a compelling blurb, please email me at jen@jenabbas.com.

We are in the beginning stages of creating my publicity plan. There are a few promotions I'm especially excited to develop. I'll share more details in the next newsletter.

***YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW***
Next week, at 9am Mountain Time on Wednesday, August 27, my publisher, Don Pape, will be presenting Generation Ex to the sales team. After the initial pitch, reps will brainstorm how to best present the book to retailers around the country.

Starting the first week of September, WaterBrook and Random House sales reps will being meeting with book buyers at everywhere from Barnes & Noble to Mom & Pop's Book Shoppe. This is a very important part of the process because this is how WaterBrook will determine the initial print run. After each presentation, the buyer will determine how many copies they will bring in to their store based on how much interest they think the general public will have in this book. When WaterBrook tallies those numbers, they will have a pretty good idea of what to expect for initial interest.

Here's how you can help. If you would like to make sure that your favorite bookstore carries Generation Ex, please stop by or call the book buyer or manager to tell them about the book. Better yet, ask them to take your name and number so that they can tell you when the book comes in. If you really want to help, email me at jen@jenabbas.com, and I will send you a Word document you can give to the store with all the key information. It would be a great help to the sales team if the stores are already familiar with the book (or at least the need for the book) when they meet with the buyer. If this is something you would like to do, please make that call or visit by mid-September. Thanks for your help!
